What We Believe

Who We Are

We are an independent, Bible-believing, evangelistic, distinct, and established Baptist Church. At First Baptist Church, the Bible is the standard of truth for what we believe and practice. We stand by and proclaim God's Word without reservation or apology.

Our Statement of Faith

  • God

We believe that there is but one God who exists as three coequal and eternal persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  • Humanity

Humankind was created in the image of God and has been given dominion and charge over all of God's creation (environment, animals, birds, sea creatures, etc.).  As a result of Adam's disobedience, death, and sin (rebellion against God) became man's natural state (all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23).

  • Scripture

While the creation gives ample evidence of the existence and nature of God, He has chosen to give humankind a special revelation in the book we call the Holy Bible, containing 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament.  These Scriptures, in the original documents, are the divinely inspired and infallible Word of God.  They have been preserved and protected by God so that we have a reliable and authoritative rule for faith and life.

  • The Christian Message

The Christian message proclaims to humankind that they are without hope, utterly unable to be reconciled to a holy and just God if left to their own works and abilities.  The good news (Gospel) is that God has out of His love for us provided in Christ Jesus (God in the flesh), by His death, burial, and resurrection, a means for humankind to be reconciled to Himself.  An individual receives this gift of eternal life by an act of faith (trust) in the finished work of Christ.  Those who are regenerated (born again) to new life in Christ can be assured of their eternal security in Christ.  Those who ignore or reject God's offer of a new life in Christ will suffer eternal condemnation and punishment in hell.

  • The Church

The church is the universal community of the elect in Christ and is made visible through the local church.  Jesus Christ is the head of the church.  Believers are to gather together in the local church to glorify God by worshiping Him, by being built up in the faith, and by reaching out into the world with the love and gospel of Christ.  The church has been entrusted with the Great Commission and thus is responsible to proclaim the gospel of Christ to all persons everywhere.

We at First Baptist Church recognize two ordinances:
1.  Believer's baptism
2.  The Lord's Supper
